Sleeper technology

Endless possibilities

With our continuous developments in sleeper technology, we at P-TEC meet the basic prerequisites for manufacturing high-quality concrete sleepers. We base our calculations on international standards such as EN and AREMA. Modern statics software enables us to design unconventional sleepers not covered by any standards or guidelines, e.g. three-rail sleepers for simultaneous use with wide and standard gauge, or standard and one-metre gauge.

The requirements determine the sleeper design

The calculations for the sleeper and the resulting design, along with its outer contour and number and location of tendons, are decisive prerequisites when selecting a suitable manufacturing process. However, the opposite approach is also possible: The sleeper can be designed according to defined specifications and loads and produced in an existing plant. Besides international standards, we also factor in all country-specific regulations when calculating and designing the sleepers.

After designing the sleepers, we run tests on the prototypes, which have always shown that thanks to our conservative calculations, the results in practice are always better than the theoretical values calculated for the sleeper.

If you require sleeper homologation, we cooperate with independent, internationally acknowledged institutions such as the Technical University of Munich to carry out the relevant process.

Categories of railway sleeper

Standard rail sleepers

Versatility and flexibility

Example:
Type B 70
This pre-stressed concrete sleeper is the norm for standard rails. We design the rail supports depending on the rail fastening system used.

Heavy-load sleepers

for extreme axle loads

Example:
The sleepers are shaped and pre-tensioned in such way that they can support axle loads of up to 32 tons. We design the rail supports depending on the rail fastening system used.

Turnout sleepers

Every sleeper is unique

Example:
Turnout sleeper with W-fastening
Pre-stressed concrete sleeper with inclined rail support with variable sleeper lengths and fastening types and positions.

Slab tracks

For ballastless tracks

Example:
RHEDA-CLASSIC
Pre-stressed concrete sleeper with cross holes and longitudinal reinforcements that are cemented into the trough.

LRT (light rail track) sleepers

Sleepers for urban and short-distance traffic

Example:
LRT sleeper
Pre-stressed concrete sleeper for trams. We design the rail supports depending on the rail fastening system used.

Special sleepers

Sleepers for special applications

Example:
Polyvalent sleeper PR01
This pre-stressed concrete sleeper can be used to fasten rails for wide gauge or international tracks. You can use the same sleepers even if the gauge changes. We design the rail supports depending on the rail fastening system used.
